About Dr Ramon Aronius

ramon rondDr Ramon Aronius completed his medical degree at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands in 1988. Thereafter, he worked as a medical practitioner in the departments of gynaecology, obstetrics and general surgery in the Netherlands. He gained further invaluable experience working in Indonesia as a medical practitioner.

Dr Aronius then moved to Germany to complete his post graduate specialisation in Gynaecology and Obstetrics in 1996. Over the years, Dr Aronius obtained various certificates on topics relating to Gynaecology and Obstetrics internationally. After qualifying as an O&G specialist, he was asked to stay on in Germany to implement and start endoscopic gynaecology.

In September 1997, he moved back to the Netherlands where he was at first a consultant at the University of Leiden and Rijnland Ziekenhuis. The last two and a half year in the Netherlands, he was the head of the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Amstelland Ziekenhuis before moving to South Africa in 2011.

Dr Aronius was responsible for the start-up and implementation of hysteroscopic and advanced laparoscopic procedures in Herdecke Hospital (Germany) as well as in Rijnland Ziekenhuis (Netherlands) and in Worcester hospital (South Africa).

Between 1999 to 2004, he was involved in academic clinical training courses in advance endoscopic surgical procedures, presented to gynaecologists at the University of Groningen (Netherlands) which was offered twice a year.

Dr Aronius participated in a joint Gynaecology-Urology-Surgical project in Niger in repairing fistulas. He was asked to give clinical training to doctors in rural Bangladesh. He trained gynaecologists in Austria, the UK and the Netherlands in hysteroscopic sterilization without general anaesthesia.

He still presents at international and national congresses and workshops. Dr Aronius has published various articles internationally and is currently writing the chapter on hysteroscopic procedures in Clinical Gynaecology (“Endoscopic Surgery part B: Hysteroscopic Procedures” in the 5th edition of Clinical Gynaecology – in review)

Dr Aronius has been nominated as one of the top specialists in the Netherlands, the last two years before leaving the Netherlands.

Dr Aronius is involved in academic training as an external lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch. He often attends international and national congresses and workshops.

Because he worked in many different countries, he is fluent in Dutch, Afrikaans, English, German and French.
